\nthe responses of Israeli citizens to political and social matters. The ways in
\nwhich art and social change intersected during the protest, and the emergence
\nof art collectives following the events, call for an understanding
\nof the relation between art and politics in Israel. This article suggests an
\nalternative reading of socially engaged art in Israel. To this end, I use F\u00e9lix
\nGuattari\u2019s notion of \u2018transversality\u2019 and Jacques Ranci\u00e8re\u2019s theory on the
\n\u2018aesthetic regime\u2019 to highlight significant periods where art and politics
\nhave intersected in ways that have challenged Israeli art historiography,
\noften neutralizing the political within an artwork. By using a theoretical
\nframework that emphasizes notions of hybridity and the blurring of
\nboundaries, I make new connections between times, places, and practices
\nthat go beyond the binaries of center and periphery, mainstream and alternative,
