.The installation De la m\u00e8r(e) au d\u00e9sert, created for Mamuta, is Akerman\u2019s portrait of a desert city in Israel. In this work as well as in Akerman\u2019s oeuvre, memory and observation are often overlaid, as well as the personal and the public, the autobiographical and the testimonial, life and death.<\/p>\n
Chantal Akerman (born in Brussels, 1950; living and working in Paris) has been a leading figure in experimental cinema since the 1970s.<\/p>\n
Since the early 90s she has used video and installation in her exploration of film form. Akerman\u2019s most recent retrospective, Too Far, Too Close, was presented at MUHKA, Antwerp in 2012. Akerman\u2019s work has also been included in such significant group exhibitions as the 2010 Sao Paulo Biennial, 2002 Documenta XI, Kassel, Germany, and the 2001 Venice Bienniale, as well as numerous international film festivals.<\/p>\n
The exhibition is held with the support of the Ostrovsky Family Fund.\u00a0Mamuta Art and Media Center at Hansen House, in collaboration with the Screen Based Department \u2013 Bezalel Art Academy and in the frame of Intersections \u2013 Jerusalem Film Festival<\/p>\n
